I. Program Introduction

In September 2015, Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed at the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit at the UN Headquarters in New York: "China proposes exploring the establishment of a Global Energy Interconnection to facilitate meeting global power demand with clean and green alternatives." Therefore, carrying out relevant scientific and technological research and promoting the development of Global Energy Interconnection technology has become a national strategy. The joint program for cultivating outstanding international electrical talents centered on Global Energy Interconnection technologies, a collaboration between Southeast University and the University of Birmingham, aligns closely with this major national strategy.

This program focuses on Global Energy Interconnection related technologies. International students participating in this program will master the most cutting-edge international industrial and scientific technologies in fields essential for the development of the Global Energy Interconnection, such as smart grids, renewable energy power generation, energy storage, electric vehicles, and carbon capture. They will also gain a broad international perspective and innovative scientific research capabilities. After completing their studies and returning to China, these students will enhance the level of electrical engineering research at Southeast University, significantly boosting Southeast University's international influence and competitiveness in the field of Global Energy Interconnection. Simultaneously, they will supply a large number of scarce technical talents to China's power-related enterprises and institutions, thereby greatly promoting China's technological development in Global Energy Interconnection.

II.Program Arrangement

For the Southeast University - University of Birmingham Dual Master's Degree Program, students who have obtained a master's qualification at Southeast University and have been selected for the program will complete their first year of coursework at the University of Birmingham in the UK. After obtaining an MSc degree from the University of Birmingham, they will return to China for their second and third years to undertake coursework at Southeast University, conduct scientific research, and enter the research and dissertation phase. Upon successfully passing the defense, they will obtain a Master's degree from Southeast University as well as the MSc degree from the University of Birmingham. The disciplines involved in the cooperative program include Power System Planning, Operation and Control; Digital Protection and Control of Power Systems; Smart Grid and Renewable Energy Power Generation Technology, and Economic Theory and Application of Power Systems.
