The members of the institute have approximately published over 500 SCI-indexed papers, authored 10 monographs and textbooks, and Granted more than 200 invention patents. The institute has received several research awards, including the Second Prize of the National Technological Invention Award of China, two First-Class Prizes of the Jiangsu Provincial Science and Technology Award, two First-Class Prizes of the Natural Science Award of the Ministry of Education of China, one First-Class Prize of the Ministry of Education for Engineering Technology, one First-Class Prize of the China Machinery Industry Science and Technology Award, one First-Class Prize of the China Electro-technical Society, one Gold Medal with the congratulations of the Jury at the Geneva Invention Exhibition, one Golden Patent Award of Jiangsu Province.

The institute has trained many graduate students, among them two have won National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Nomination Awards and nine have won Jiangsu Provincial Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Awards.

The institute has been completed many research projects collaborated with industry under the support of National Key R&D Program, Jiangsu Provincial Major Achievement Transformation Fund Program, Jiangsu Provincial Key R&D Program, etc. The applications of research work have strongly promoted the development of industry in the fields of wind power, electric vehicles, energy exploitation, and servo drives. Specifically, the institute has conducted systematic and in-depth research on stator-permanent-magnet (SPM) machines since the early 1990s, becoming one of the earliest institutions to study this type of novel permanent-magnet brushless machine around the world, and has achieved internationally leading research results. Moreover, the institute proposed the General Airgap Field Modulation Theory for Electrical Machines, which not only unifies the analysis and calculation of various types of electrical machines, but also breaks the shackles of the traditional electrical machine theory that only fundamental magnetic field is involved in energy conversion, while the harmonic magnetic fields are considered as detrimental. Thus, the "fundamental + harmonics" multi working fields electrical machines have been developed by turning harmonic magnetic fields from waste to treasure, significantly increasing torque density and efficiency of electrical machines.
