On April 10, 2025, Professor Cheng Ming from the School of Electrical Engineering at Southeast University led a team to attend Chery Automobile Co., Ltd.'s Global Hybrid Strategy Launch and Open-Source Program Release Ceremony in Wuhu, Anhui. At the event, Chery Automobile officially announced that Southeast University is one of the first five strategic partner universities (and the only one focused on automotive electric drive systems). Chery also donated a hybrid engine to Southeast University, becoming a strategic partner in the areas of new energy power systems and intelligent control.
In recent years, the School of Electrical Engineering at Southeast University has actively carried out strategic planning in the field of new energy vehicles. The school has received approval for the first off-list new major in electric transportation engineering from the Ministry of Education, and has been authorized to establish the Ministry of Education's Engineering Research Center for Electric Transportation Technology. The school is also leading national key research and development projects in the new energy vehicle field and has received funding from major national science foundations. The school has built a high-level research team that includes several national-level talents, and its influence in the new energy vehicle industry is increasingly evident.
It is worth noting that Chery Group ranked 385th on the 2024 Fortune Global 500 list. This marks the first time that the School of Electrical Engineering has joined the ranks of strategic partners with leading companies in the new energy vehicle industry and is a significant result of the school’s discipline strategy optimization and adjustment. Moving forward, the school will work closely with partners, including Chery Automobile, to contribute more of its expertise to the development of new energy vehicles in China.
