Professor Petar Grbovic from University of Innsbruck Visited Our School

On November 3, 2025, Prof. Petar Grbovic, Chair Professor of the Innsbruck Power Electronics Lab (i-PEL) at the University of Innsbruck, Austria, visited the School of Electrical Engineering at Southeast University (SEU) upon the invitation of Prof. Wu Chen. He delivered an academic lecture entitled "Partial Power Converters: A Myth or Reality?". The lecture was chaired by Prof. Chen and was attended by over 20 faculty members and students.

At the beginning of the lecture, Prof. Chen delivered a warm welcome speech to Prof. Petar Grbovic for his first visit, in which Prof. Chen pointed out that Prof. Grbovic has very high reputation in the field of power electronics converter design and control, and his research achievements are of great significance for advancing high-performance power conversion technology. He stated that this academic exchange would provide a valuable learning opportunity for both faculty and students at SEU.

During the formal presentation, Prof. Petar Grbovic delivered a systematic and in-depth lecture entitled "Partial Power Processing Converters: A Myth or Reality?". Starting with fundamental concepts, he clearly outlined the basic principles, historical development, core technical issues, potential application scenarios, future trends, and challenges of partial power processing converters. He demonstrated their unique advantages compared to classic full power processing converters, offering the audience both forward-looking and practical research perspectives. In the Q&A session, Prof. Chen and participants raised several technical questions regarding partial power converters. Prof. Grbovic provided professional answers and shared unique insights based on his extensive industrial and academic experience. After the lecture, Prof. Chen presented Prof. Grbovic with a copy of the monograph “History of Power Electronics” as a gift.

The lecture lasted approximately one and a half hours. It was substantial in content and fostered in-depth discussion, effectively promoting international academic exchange in the field of power electronics within SEU.

Note: The Innsbruck Power Electronics Lab (i-PEL) is affiliated with the Faculty of Engineering Science at the University of Innsbruck, Austria. It was jointly established by Infineon Technologies Austria AG and the University of Innsbruck, primarily focusing on research in advanced power semiconductors and power electronics technologies.
