Coffee Filter Bugs
Stuff:
Coffee Filters (round) Washable colored markers Water spray bottle Food Coloring Gelatin or powdered drink mix Hair bands
Optional stuff:
Cardboard paper towel tube Chenille wire
GIGGLES: How to begin
Explore the paper coffee filter with your Toddler. Lay it flat on a washable surface. Color a design on the coffee filter. Scribbles work well, too!
Help your Toddler squirt a little water onto the filter and watch the water absorb and run the colors of the marker design. Add a few drops of food color to the water and squirt it again. Talk about the new colors that are in the filter now.
Sprinkle some gelatin or drink mix dry powder onto the wet filter. Use a cotton swab or your fingers to "paint' the powder into the filter. You can encourage your Toddler to taste and smell the powder.
Allow the decorated filter to air dry or have some fun drying it with a hair dryer.
Goof it up:
Continue the play by gathering the center of the dry filter in the center. This will form two wings. Wrap a hair band or chenille wire around the center to secure. Add an additional hair tie to attach the new butterfly to your child's wrist. Fly, Fly, Butterfly!!
Optional Play:
Make two coffee filter wings. Tape to a paper towel tube. Attach a hair tie around the tube and slip Toddler hand through for flight. Fly, Dragonfly Fly!
